Bio

Acclaimed for his “warm lyrical expressiveness” and incredible technique, cellist Joseph Staten is a versatile artist renowned for his sincere interpretations of both the classical canon and new music. He enjoys a career in demand as both soloist and chamber musician, with continuous engagements at the Marlboro Music Festival, the Grinberg Salon Series, and recent performances at the Cape Cod Chamber Music, Palm Beach Society of the Four Arts, and the Festival de Música de Cámara San Miguel de Allende, among others. He has been featured on NPR’s Performance Today, Marlboro Historical Performances, The Violin Channel, WQXR, and many other platforms.


An avid chamber musician, Joseph has collaborated with such artists as Jonathan Biss, Mark Steinberg, Misha Amory, Hsin-Yun Huang, Anna Polonsky, Kim Kashkashian, Carmit Zori, Joseph Lin, Guy Braunstein, Tatjana Mazurenko, Lydia Brown, and Sam Rhodes. He earned his Master’s at the Juilliard School studying with Timothy Eddy, and his Bachelor’s and Performance Diploma at the Peabody Institute with Amit Peled, to whom Joseph served as assistant in teaching technique class. Joseph is currently pursuing his Doctorate at the CUNY Graduate Center, studying with Marcy Rosen.


A passionate teacher, Joseph was a contributing editor to the First Hour, an acclaimed scale book by Amit Peled. He is on the faculty of MusArt, a burgeoning music school in Long Island.
